Join us at the park for a ladies' bonnet workshop! In this program, we'll spend the morning creating the framework for your fashion bonnet, break for lunch, and then spend the afternoon sewing the materials together to bring your bonnet to life! Refreshments will be provided. Finished bonnets are perfect for wearing at living history events, reenactments, heritage festivals, and period-themed celebrations. They also make a wonderful accessory for costumes, educational programs, or historical demonstrations, or to wear to a party/church. Registration required: email [email protected] to reserve your place. Things You Should Know: Meet: Interpretive Center Bring: This workshop is a 5-hour workshop; bring anything you need to be comfortable. Materials needed: Scissors, pins, thread, fashion fabric (Silk, satin, velvet, and similar fabrics), and any items you wish to decorate your bonnet with, such as feathers, silk flowers/leaves, buttons, jewelry, beads, ribbons, and lace. Cost: Included with admission to the park. Park admission is free with a Texas State Park Pass (purchased before the event). *Please note: basic sewing skills are required, as assembling the bonnet will be difficult without prior sewing experience.

Established in Nov. 1867, the fort is named in honor of Gen. Israel B. Richardson, who died in the Battle of Antietam. The fort was the northernmost of Federal Forts established after the Civil War.
