Daj Ognia • Baltic Tour dance workshop with live music @ XXX Võru Pärimustantsu Festival 09.07 • 16:00 • entrance free - - - „We roam between Poland and Scandinavia, playing at barn dance parties, funeral feasts and in the sacred groves. We stop at the taverns standing on the frozen Baltic Sea, creating music for villagers and townspeople alike, to dance to and to ponder over." Daj Ognia band is based in Krakow, Poland, and their music is most often defined as 'dark folk' or 'alternative folk'. Their artistic creation is set in "a village that never was". Referring to an old myth of the Baltic Sea freezing over winter, they find inspiration in both Polish and Scandinavian musical traditions. With archaic instruments found in these lands, in their theatrical manner, the band interweaves the melodies of melancholic longing and frenetic trance-like dances. Daj Ognia's original compositions bring back the fiery raves of bygone days. ➡️ As part of XXX Võru Pärimustantsu Festival, the band will lead an intro to Polish traditional dances workshop, accompanied by live music and stories of the dances history and original contexts. During the workshop - suitable for dancers of any level of experience - you will learn the basics steps of couple dances, folk choreographies, and of course the Polish specialty - syncopated spinning dance "oberek"! - - - : : this workshop is a part of 'Daj Ognia | Baltic tour' - project is co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland from the Culture Promotion Fund : : supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Tallinn
