Creative writing with Loesje: Tango on 16 square metres

If you feel like discussing architecture, interior design and living spaces in a creative way, join Loesje for a text writing session at the Zachęta Narodowa Galeria Sztuki / Zachęta National Gallery of Art. Loesje workshops involve writing short texts during a creative group process. Participants can offer topics to write about and this time our source of inspiration is the new exhibition, "Tango on 16 square metres." We will discuss issues such as urban architecture, living spaces, past and present, personal and public, and other related topics. No previous experience in writing is needed. It's all about the group dynamics, playing with words and associations. At the end of the session, the most inspiring and intriguing texts are chosen for final editing. They are later layouted to create a new series of black and white posters signed by Loesje. The exhibition investigates precarious urban dwelling conditions and their architectural responses through the lens of Zbigniew Rybczyński's Academy Award-winning short film "Tango" from 1980. Contemporary urban living conditions are often associated with a more intensive use of available space and resources. In the need of 'squeezing more out' of the means at one's disposal, residential landscapes are shaped by the intricate planning of architects and designers, but also by the inventiveness, humour and imagination of their users. These achievements are a double edged sword - while leading to an immediate improvement of the status quo, they also instigate a problematic shift in the understanding of what is considered normal and acceptable.
