Talking about a child's birth history is a task that every adoptive or foster parent encounters. Lifestory work is a social work intervention with children and adults designed to recognise their past, present, and future. The aim of this webinar is to consider the significance for children of family history in having an understanding of who they are and how they have come to be where they are today. By understanding and making sense of their beginnings, emotional security and sense of self can be enhanced for a child, as well as relationships within their adopted families. We explore the challenges of sharing - and what may be for some - very difficult information about your child's family of origin and look at your child's growing levels of understanding as they get older. Together we aim to achieve ways of making this difficult task possible. Recommended for: All stages of adoption and fostering. This webinar is free of charge for Adoption Matters families and Foster Care Matters families. It is also free for Regional Adoption Agency (RAA) families who are currently receiving support from the Centre for Fostering and Adoption Support. If you are an Adoption Matters solo adopter, you may invite one person to join you at our Centre for Fostering and Adoption Support webinars at no additional cost. This can be a family member or a friend who is supporting you. Please include their details on your registration form. If you're not connected to Adoption Matters, Foster Care Matters or CFAS, then you can still attend our webinars but at a cost of just £5 per person. We offer closed captioning on our webinars to provide a live transcript of what is being said - if you would like to have this activated, then please do contact us at the point of booking so that the facilitator is aware.
